The value of functional separation

The Mobile World Feature Article: India breaks all-time net adds record
In January 2008 India broke the all-time record for organic monthly net additions for the third time in six months, adding the greatest number of new connections ever seen in any market in the history of the mobile world. A total of 8.63m new connections were made, exceeding the previous high of 8.23m to take the national customer base over 238m. The boom in the Indian market is happening in both the GSM and CDMA sectors as both technologies set their own records for organic net additions in the first month of the year. Including estimates for Reliance, whose reporting still lags by a month, GSM net additions increased in number to 6.54m in January - beating the previous best of 6.24m set in August 2007. In the CDMA department we believe the 2.088m new connections made in January 2008 to have just surpassed the total set in November 2007 by the smallest of margins.
